JOHN CHILD is the founding principal of SIMI and provides executive leadership for the firm. Prior to establishing the firm in 1993, John worked in finance and management positions in six different industries ranging from health care and insurance, to biotechnology and publishing. Immediately prior to founding SIMI, John served as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for a public company in the health and life insurance industries. As Treasurer he directly managed and invested the multi-hundred million dollars of the corporation’s investment accounts. During his tenure as a public company financial executive John worked with many of Wall Street’s investment and banking firms and gained a first-hand insight to the many ways that those firms can take advantage of the individual investor. SIMI was founded as a firm where friends and family could receive professional investment management services without the industry prevalent high costs or conflicts of interest and where the individual investor is treated with respect. In short, SIMI is the kind of firm he would have liked as a client, if one had existed.
In addition to his broad work experience, John has served on a number of corporate boards that have helped to broaden his background and knowledge base. These board directorships include organizations within the biotechnology, health insurance, wealth management, and banking industries. John’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Finance and an M.B.A. in Management of Science and Technology.
John enjoys many outside interests and sports activities. He lives on a working horse and cattle ranch and is very active training, and competing and showing quarter horses in several western disciplines. John has served as a director on various not-for-profit boards over the past several decades.
John is very proud of where SIMI is today and continues to nurture an environment where “My friends are my clients, and my clients are my friends”.
