MARK BIALLAS joined SIMI in January 2019 and currently serves as Chief Investment Officer. His career in finance began in New York where he worked on the international trading desk of a major investment bank. During that part of his career, he learned first-hand the pros and cons of working on Wall Street. His next move took him to one of the largest mutual fund companies in the U.S. where he became head of their global trading desk. Mark and his team traded stocks, bonds, currencies, options and futures in over 50 countries, 24 hours a day, six days a week. His position at the heart of the business meant Mark was directly involved in many of the investment decisions that affected the performance of mutual funds and client portfolios. As the business grew he was asked to move to Singapore for several years to set up a new Asia-focused trading desk for the firm. He also held multiple leadership and oversight positions on internal committees that set policy for the firm, developed core strategies and ensured compliance with government regulations.
A self-proclaimed financial nerd, Mark enjoys putting his 20+ years of investment experience to work for clients. He finds it rewarding helping people reach their long-term goals and he appreciates the mental challenge of building portfolios that are tailored to fit each client. Peoples’ lives are continually changing and the financial markets are always evolving, so investment plans need to be regularly adapted to fit new circumstances. Mark enjoys this continual back and forth that makes every day different than the last. Along with his work experience, Mark holds a B.A. in History from U.C. Berkeley and a Master’s degree in Pacific International Affairs – International Finance from U.C. San Diego. He is also a member of the Oregon chapter of the Financial Planning Association.
Outside of the office Mark is happiest spending time with his wife raising their two daughters. With both girls on a swim team he spends a lot of time poolside, happily holds the unofficial title of “Swim Dad” and has even become a certified on-deck swim official for his daughters’ team. He is also a bit of a gearhead and has been known to pull entire engines out of cars and rebuild them “for fun”.
